How do old and new standards differ?

The new national standard has the same requirements for vehicle speed, with the speed of ≤ 25km/h. The proportion of plastic parts is greatly reduced to no more than 5.5% of the vehicle mass. Electric bicycles are required to have Beidou positioning, communication and dynamic safety monitoring functions. The new national standard puts forward stricter technical requirements in key fields such as vehicle tamper resistance, fire resistance and flame retardancy, braking performance, etc.

Obvious difference between new and old car prices. In order to meet the technical configuration requirements of the new national standard, the production cost of the new standard electric bicycle is expected to increase by 500 to 800 yuan.

Three-month buffer period, smooth transition

With the formal implementation of the new national standard, the old standard vehicles have entered the inventory clearing stage. The policy stipulates that vehicles manufactured according to the old standard before August 31, 2025 still have a 3-month sales transition period and are allowed to be sold until November 30. That is to say, the old standard vehicles purchased by consumers before this period still have the right of way and will not be eliminated compulsively.

During the alternating period of new and old standards, old standard vehicles are sold well

At the critical node of the transition between new and old standards, the current market conditions show a rush to buy old standard vehicles.

In accordance with the Notice on Doing a Good Job in Converting Electric Bicycle to New in 2025 jointly issued by the Ministry of Commerce and other five departments, local governments implement government subsidy policies, plus a series of promotions held by manufacturers, at present, old standard vehicles have become the first choice for consumers to buy cars.

Many citizens know about the new national standard and rush to buy old cars, resulting in the lack of many models, and even the price of old cars may rise without price reduction.

Merchants are catching up with the transition period of three months to get the last pot of gold.

New standards will accelerate industry reshuffle

The new standard sets more strict threshold in vehicle safety, mechanical safety, electrical safety, fire resistance and flame retardant performance, radio immunity characteristics, Beidou navigation and other dimensions. Some enterprises have not yet obtained 3C product certification certificate, facing the awkward situation of no car for doing and no car for selling. The implementation of new national standards is causing deep reshuffle of the industry.

With December 1 approaching, the old GB electric bicycles will be abandoned. Although the price of new national standard vehicle is higher, the safety performance is significantly improved.
